Pictures of Mexico

Many of the pictures were taken in a place called Palenque, Mexico. These are Mayan ruins, and the site was originally occupied around 300BC. There are some other pictures from driving through the mountains to San Cristobol. Notice the waterfall that was off in the distance from the road. You will also see pics of the waterfall sites, Agua Azul and Miso Ha. There are also some pics of the Canyon de Sumidero (near San Cristobol), and the famous "Christmas Tree" growing out of the side of the rock face. It is a moss-like material, and when the boat takes you underneath it, you can see tiny streams of water raining down like strands of silk. I could not get a picture of that, but it looked like silk coming down from heaven - quite beautiful.

The last set of pictures are from a small pueblo called "Ichu" in the mountains north of Mexico city. From the main highway, it takes an hour down a spiraling dirt road to the town. I went there with some friends from Mexico City for the New Years celebration. They have an old tradition where they dance all night to live folkloric music. They have two bands with the same instrumentation, and they take turns playing all night long. They have one PA, so you don't really notice them changing over. Their songs don't change too much, but it's a lot of fun. I went to bed about 4am in the morning, and when I got up the next morning around 11am, they were still playing and dancing. It was amazing. If you click on the thumbnail images, you can see the pics full size. Enjoy...:)
